Sanbao was born in a family of musicians. He started learning violin at the age of four and piano at eleven. He entered the Inner Mongolia Arts School in 1979. When he was thirteen he started to learn violin at the Beijing Central Minorities University High School. In 1986, he passed the entering exam with a high distinction result and started to learn conducting at the Central Music Academy. Starting from 1990, Sanbao worked with Guangxi Chorus Orchestra, Wuhan Dance Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, China Central Symphony Orchestra and China Broadcasting Orchestra. In 1997, he started to work as a freelance musician.

During the time at Minorities College, Sanbao developed a deep interest in Western pop music and also started experimenting with its creation. In 1989, he ascended to be a representative of pop music creation with his work - "Light of Asian Games" at the grand show of Asian Games in Beijing. Since then he continued to devote himself to the creation, composition and performance of music. He composed a number of songs for the famous Taiwanese singer, Su Rui. He also worked with Li Zongsheng and Lu Guanting in producing the album - We Are Just Like This. One of the songs in the album he composed for singer Mao Aming - We Do Not Want to Be Hurt By Love Again, was awarded No.1 amongst the Top 10 Golden Songs for the first quarter of 1995 by HK Radio. Until now, he has created and composed thousands of music works and hundreds of pop songs. While working on pop music, he has never given up his profession and continued to conduct various symphony performance for Chinese and foreign symphony orchestras. He also has a deep interest in music creation for TV, movies and advertising. He is hence renowned for his music talent as well the diversity of his creations.

Sanbao led the performance of his own series of music in the HK Arts Festival of 1996. This was a nine minutes long work that fused classic music with the characteristics of modern music and Mongolian folk songs, giving the music a strong visual impact. It received overwhelming reaction from the audience. He produced a music album - Come Back, at his own expenses after he returned Beijing.

In the 1990s, as a famous musician, Sanbao was frequently invited to sit as a member of the panel in large scale music competitions by Central TV, Channel [V], Beijing TV, a number of TV channels and other media organisations.

In 1998, Sanbao planned, composed and produced for a grand concert by five famous Chinese male stars in Beijing. He also conducted the show himself. In October, 2000, Sanbao was the Chief Music Producer for the UK performance of the grand musical - Bravo for China.

In 2000, Sanbao worked with film director, Zhang Yimou on the composition of the music in the application for hosting Olympics.

On April 6-7, 2001, Sanbao hosted his own film and television music concert in Beijing at the Century Theatre. Part of the performance was played by the Chinese Opera Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Sanbao himself. Singers in the performance included stars such as Liu Huan, Mao Aming, Sun Nan and Nayin. The entire performance was a huge success.
